Supporting Job Readiness and Housing Stability
The Here’s To Life (HTL) Workforce Development Pathway to Employment is a comprehensive program designed to empower individuals recovering from substance use disorders to become job-ready and achieve housing stability. Acknowledged by the U.S. Department of Labor, we also "believe in the potential of committed and reliable employees".
WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT CURRICULUM
SMART GOALS
SMART Goals (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) are essential for helping individuals set clear and attainable objectives. In recovery and housing contexts, this framework encourages clients to develop realistic plans for stability, such as maintaining employment or securing housing, fostering motivation and a sense of accomplishment.
SELF-CONFIDENCE
Building self-confidence empowers individuals to believe in their abilities to make positive life changes. For those in recovery with HIV, increased confidence supports decision-making, resilience, and independence, which are crucial for maintaining housing stability and achieving personal goals.
LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
Leadership skills cultivate self-advocacy and the ability to influence positive change in one's life. Developing leadership helps individuals take ownership of their recovery journey, navigate housing challenges, and engage proactively with support systems and community resources.
TIME MANAGEMENT
Effective time management enables clients to prioritize responsibilities, such as attending appointments, managing medications, and maintaining employment. Mastering this skill supports stability in housing and health, reducing stress and preventing setbacks.
WORKPLACE ETIQUETTE
Understanding professional behavior and communication fosters successful employment experiences. For individuals in recovery, stable employment is often linked to housing stability; practicing workplace etiquette increases job retention and self-sufficiency.
BUDGETING AND SAVING
Financial literacy, including budgeting and saving, is vital for managing income, paying rent, and avoiding debt. These skills help individuals sustain housing, reduce financial stress, and build a foundation for long-term stability.
JOB SEARCH TECHNIQUES
Learning effective job search strategies increases employment opportunities, which are often essential for housing independence. Support in this area helps clients regain financial stability and self-reliance.
INTERVIEW SKILLS & EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION
Strong interview and communication skills improve chances of securing employment and building supportive relationships. For recovery individuals, stable employment and social support directly impact housing stability and overall well-being.
WORKING WHILE ON SOCIAL SECURITY
Supporting individuals in recovery with HIV to work while on SSDI and SSI helps them increase income, build independence, and achieve housing stability. Understanding how to work within benefit guidelines allows them to gain work experience and financial security without risking their support. This balance promotes long-term housing goals and empowers clients to confidently navigate employment and recovery simultaneously.
